what is Oily Skin?
Do start off your day looking fresh and matte but after a couple of hours end up looking shiny and greasy all over your face?
Oily skin can be caused by a variety of wide-ranging factors from genetics – sorry, it’s hereditary – to stress, diet and fluctuating hormones. Oily skin differs from combination skin because the whole face, not just the T-zone area, is affected. Excess sebum (oil) can make your face look shiny and skin feel greasy, while also leaving you more prone to blackheads and blemishes. Oiler skin types also tend to have larger, more visible pores. Many people struggle with oily skin only to neglect it. Due to the excess oils they neglect to hydrate and moisturise their skin. This may sound like a good idea but its really not. Regardless of what skin type (eg dry, oil, combination) you are you still need to hydrate your skin.
Don't forget to cleanse!
Not only using good skincare products will benefit your skin but also making sure you have a routine which you don't skip. Your skincare routine needs to be done daily, Morning and night.
Step 1) Double cleansing your skin in the evening should not be skipped. You should clean off any makeup products, skincare products such as SPF and pollution to make sure your skin stands a chance of looking its best!
A couple of my favourite cleansers: DHL Deep Cleansing Oil

Step 2) A really great ingredient for oily skin is Salicylic Acid (BHA) this is a great ingredient to clean your pores from within. This is a chemical exfoliator, the days of the physical facial scrub are long gone. Think St Ives facial scrub - this is a physical exfoliator and your skin will not thank you.

Step 3) Hydrate with Hyaluronic Acid
Even if you have oily skin your skin can still be dehydrated. Use a hyaluronic acid to add hydration back. Vichy Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Acid
Step 4) Moisturise
Lock in all that hydration with a moisturiser. Make sure when you choose a moisturiser you choose ones designed for oily skin, Heavy thick oil laden moisturisers will not be your friend,
Step 5) THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP - SUNSCREEN
Never never forget to wear a separate facial SPF. Add your SPF on in the morning everyday even on days that are not sunny. This SPF should be a UVA/UVB SPF.
Yes, SPFS have been known to be extremely greasy on the skin however nowadays there are SPFS designed for oily skin. Check out these:
